Bali 2025 Travel Guide: Best Places to Visit & Things to Do

Hey wanderers! Rupnath and I are back with another budget-friendly travel guide, and this time, we’re taking you to the magical island of Bali! Having explored this Indonesian paradise three times now, we’re excited to share our ultimate guide, packed with insider tips and tricks to make your Bali trip unforgettable without breaking the bank. We’re talking luxurious villas for $10 a night, mouthwatering meals for $2, and breathtaking waterfalls for just $1! Intrigued? Keep reading!

Snagging those Cheap Flights to Bali

Let’s face it, flights can eat a huge chunk of your travel budget. Our secret weapon? Flexibility! We religiously use Skyscanner and Google Flights to compare prices across an entire month, zeroing in on the cheapest dates. These platforms even allow you to filter results by price or travel time.

Another pro tip: Stalk your favorite airlines! Follow them on social media, subscribe to their email lists – basically, do whatever it takes to stay updated on those sweet, sweet sales. For us Filipinos, we live for Cebu Pacific’s “piso sales” where roundtrip tickets can drop to a mind-boggling 4,000-6,000 pesos!

When to Bask in Bali’s Beauty: Choosing the Right Season

Bali boasts two main seasons:

  • Dry Season (April-November): Sunshine galore, lower humidity – perfect for beach days and outdoor adventures. Be warned though, this is peak season, so expect bigger crowds and higher prices.
  • Wet Season (December-March): Occasional showers but fewer tourists and better deals. Just be prepared for some potential limitations on outdoor activities due to the rain.

Airport Essentials: Wi-Fi, SIM Cards & Cash

Two things you absolutely must sort out upon arrival:

  • Pocket Wi-Fi/Local SIM Card: Pre-booking is key for scoring the best deals! We recommend a pocket Wi-Fi for shorter trips (around $3.50/day) and a local SIM card for longer stays (as low as $22 for 30 days, depending on your data needs). I’ll leave some links in the description below (imagine this is a YouTube description box – wink!).
  • Cash: ATMs often offer better exchange rates than money changers in our experience. While credit cards are accepted in many places, cash is king for street food and smaller local shops.

Where to Rest Your Head: Choosing Your Bali Base

For first-timers, these four main areas are excellent starting points:

  • Seminyak: Stylish beach town known for stunning sunsets, vibrant nightlife, and high-end everything (boutiques, restaurants, accommodation). If you want to splurge a little, Seminyak is your place.
  • Kuta: Just a stone’s throw from Seminyak (and even closer to the airport!), Kuta shares a similar vibe but is noticeably more budget-friendly. Think hostels, mid-range hotels, surf spots, and lively nightlife.
  • Ubud: Remember “Eat Pray Love”? That’s Ubud. Lush rice paddies, yoga retreats, traditional Balinese dance performances, and a general sense of tranquility. It’s about a 2-hour drive from the airport but worth it for the immersive cultural experience. Be mindful of the monkeys though; they have a penchant for snatching belongings!
  • Canggu: Laid-back beach town perfect for surfers and those seeking a quieter escape. Less crowded beaches, trendy cafes, and hipster hangouts. Fin’s Beach Club, a world-renowned party spot, is also located here.

No single answer is right! For a week-long trip, we actually recommend hopping between areas to get a taste of Bali’s diverse offerings. Stay tuned for our 7-day itinerary suggestion at the end of this guide. Oh, and regardless of where you choose to stay, affordable villas are everywhere. We even have a vlog on our channel (again, pretend this is a blog linked to a YouTube channel) showcasing stunning private villas for as little as $10 per night! Some even boast private rooftop jacuzzis, net beds overlooking rice fields, and even treetop nests.

The Best of Bali: Must-Do Activities & Experiences

Want to experience Bali’s highlights without draining your wallet? Joiner tours are the answer! By joining a group, you split the cost, making these tours incredibly affordable (often $20-30, including meals!). They’re also incredibly convenient, often including hotel pick-up. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Nusa Penida Day Tour ( ~$40): Think of Nusa Penida as Bali’s younger, equally stunning sibling. This tour covers boat transfers, van transportation, entrance fees, and a tour guide, whisking you to iconic spots like Kelingking Beach, Diamond Beach, Broken Beach, and Crystal Bay. A true paradise!
  • Mt. Batur Sunrise Trek (~$32): Challenge yourself with a pre-dawn climb up a volcano! Witness the magical sunrise from 5,633 ft above sea level. The tour usually includes a simple breakfast at the summit.
  • Ayung White Water Rafting Tour (~$17): Thrilling rapids, stunning jungle scenery, and expert guides make this an unforgettable experience, surprisingly affordable.
  • Bali Instagram Tour (~$31): Capture stunning photos at all the Insta-famous spots: the Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple, Tegalalang Rice Terraces, swings overlooking lush jungles, and more.

We also highly recommend the Uluwatu Temple and Kecak Fire Dance Tour and tours exploring North Bali, but these are just a few popular choices to give you a sense of the value and variety available.

Exploring Bali DIY-Style: Transportation Tips

If joining a group isn’t your thing, there are plenty of ways to explore independently:

  • Scooter Rental (~$4-5/day, ~$1/liter for gas): Cheapest option for flexible exploration. Just ensure you have a valid license, wear a helmet, and be aware of the sometimes-chaotic traffic.
  • Ride-Hailing Apps (Grab/Gojek): Cheaper and more convenient than taxis. You also get the benefit of cashless transactions using your credit card.
  • Private Car and Driver ( ~$30 for a 6-hour charter for up to 4 people): This is where things get interesting! Yes, it initially seems costly, but listen up: it’s more cost-effective (and definitely less stressful) than juggling separate transfers and navigating unfamiliar routes. It essentially becomes a customized mini-tour. Need a transfer from Seminyak to Ubud? Book a 6-hour charter. The driver can pick you up, stop at sights along the way (making your transfer double as a personalized tour!), and then drop you off. You decide where to go, and the price includes fuel. And when splitting with your travel companions the individual costs drops very much further as group sizes go up. That is just great! We used this trick countless of times ourselves already during multiple trips and are super excited to have this amazing secret included within our latest guide now available for everyone now.

A Culinary Journey: Must-Try Balinese Dishes

Balinese food is an experience in itself! From street food wonders to upscale restaurants, there’s a flavor for every palate and budget. Here are five dishes you absolutely must try:

  • Nasi Goreng (~$1-3): The iconic Indonesian fried rice.
  • Mie Goreng (~$1-3): The noodle equivalent of Nasi Goreng.
  • Sate (~$0.50-1 per skewer): Grilled skewered meat (chicken, beef, or pork) with peanut sauce.
  • Babi Guling (~$4-7): Roasted suckling pig, crispy skin, and tender meat.
  • Nasi Campur (~$2-4): “Mixed rice,” offering a little bit of everything: rice, meat, vegetables, eggs, tofu, tempeh, and sambal.

My personal favorites are Mie Goreng and Nasi Goreng – quick, easy, and delicious! And don’t forget the sambal (chili sauce) for an extra kick!
